SLEEP DEPRIVATION AND DEPRESSION
Recent studies found those who slept less than five hours a night were three times more likely than normal sleepers to become psychologically distressed in the next year.
Each hour of sleep lost was linked to a 14 per cent increased risk of distress. Read more...
MELATONIN THERAPY FOR INSOMNIA
The Therapeutic Goods Administration has recently approved the use of a new sedative drug for primary insomnia, called Circadin. The drug is a prolonged-release 2mg Melatonin tablet used to treat primary insomnia short term. It’s indicated for use in older people (above 55 year of age) but studies have not proven the efficacy of the drug beyond 3 weeks use. Read more...

Recent studies have shown that impaired lung function (a reduced FVC or FEV1) may be a risk factor for the future development of type 2 diabetes. The average rate of decline in lung function (FEV1) for people with diabetes was 71ml/year compared to that of healthy non-smokers at 25-30ml/year. Read more...

Q: I don't sleep well in strange places. How will you be able to perform a sleep study on me if I don't sleep?
A: "How will I be able to sleep with all this stuff on me?" is probably the most common concern we hear in the sleep lab. It is expected that most people will not get a usual night sleep in the lab, however we find the majority end up managing normal sleep efficiencies (of about 70-90%).
