Latest Asthma, COPD and OSA Statistics
Currently, over 2 million Australians are suffering from Asthma with an estimated prevalence of 17% in children and 11% in adults. Despite being a common condition, public health expenditure for asthma alone costs Australia over 600 million dollars a year with over 37000 hospital admissions recorded in 2007/08. Read more...
Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge
On the 9th of October, an anticipated 10,000 cyclists will take part in a 100km ride from city to sea to raise funds for Diabetes Australia Queensland and The Heart Foundation.
This mass participation ride not only increases the awareness of cycling and encourages the general community to get out and be active; it also helps raise funds for two very worthy causes – Diabetes & Heart Disease research. Read more...
World Habitat Day
World Habitat Day is celebrated around the world on the first Monday each October. This year, it will be held on October 3rd with the theme being, Cities and Climate Change. World Habitat Day was officially designated by the United Nations and was first celebrated in 1986. The purpose of this day is to reflect on the state of our towns and cities and the basic right of all, to have access to adequate shelter. It is also intended to remind the world of its collective responsibility to maintain our habitat for future. Read more...
The Cancer Council's "Girl's Night In" - October
Girls night in is an initiative that raises awareness and funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support programs. What started as a small undertaking is now responsible for contributing over $4 million each year for women’s cancers. Read more...
The Great Push: Investing in Mental Health
October 10 marks World Mental Health Day - an initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) aimed at raising public awareness about mental health issues. The day promotes more open discussion of mental disorders, and investments in prevention and treatment services with the theme for 2011 being "The Great Push: Investing in Mental Health." Our teams will come to your practice, provide up to date information in thoracic and sleep medicine, access to the latest CPAP equipment, educational material for your practice, in a timely interactive session.
The teams can provide referral pads plus the electronic referral software compatible with Best Practice, PractiX, Genie and Medical Director.
